The Roman theatre of Aosta, whose partial remains are clearly visible today, is one of the most emblematic examples of Roman-era theatre architecture.
The most visually imposing section is the south façade (22m high) with a series of buttresses and arches, lightened by three orders of windows, differing in shape and size. It is also possible to see the cavea, the seating for the public, which reached up to the third order of windows on the perimeter wall. Furthermore, the orchestra pit with an 10m diameter and the foundations of the background stage wall can also be seen.
Continuing study of the area over the years has revealed information about the original structure which, it is believed, could seat 4,000 people.
