On the Salt Road, where the Oltrepò Pavese area borders the region of Emilia, stands a village suspended in time, Rovaiolo Vecchio, a hamlet in the municipality of Brallo di Pregola, southernmost point of the province of Pavia.
Despite the years that pass, the neglect and pillage, the houses, stables and paddocks are exactly as they were 50 years ago, when Rovaiolo Vecchio was suddenly abandoned by its residents who feared a landslide from Mount Lésima. The disaster, however, never happened and the deserted farming village became a ghostly place. The houses are mostly intact, both inside and out, making the entire village an open-air museum.
