Notable for its originality and wealth, the artistic, historic and cultural heritage of Crema has been conserved almost intact. The city offers numerous historical and artistic routes to explore the artefacts of its glorious past.
The thousand year old monuments tell the story of the town from Crema’s political stand as a medieval Free Commune (Libero Comune) of Lombardy, through the short-lived rule of the Benzoni, to the periods of domination first by Venice, then France and later Austria to the present day where there has been a strong move towards recovering and appreciating this rich artistic and environmental heritage.
Over 80 palaces, churches, monasteries and art monuments have remained unchanged for centuries and the historical centres is one of the most interesting and best conserved of the entire region with Romanesque-Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo and neoclassical styles mingling in streets and squares.
Furthermore, given its setting in the Regional Park del Serio, Crema offers pristine, lush vegetation.
