The Palazzo Mercantile of Bolzano was built in Baroque style between 1708 and 1727 to a design by the Veronese architect Francesco Perotti, to serve as the seat of the Mercantile Magistrate and the Mercantile Court.
In addition to its administrative function for the merchants of Bolzano, the Palazzo (located between via Argentieri and via dei Portici) had an important social aspect: it was the symbol of the economic rise of the mercantile city, with its particular privileges linked to trade fair activity. The palace later became the seat of the Chamber of Commerce until 1979.
Today the building houses the mercantile museum whose magnificent collection of documents, paintings and furnishings from the 17th and 18th centuries tells the economic history of a region located at a strategic point on the trade routes through the Alps.
Within the limits prescribed by the regulation on national monuments, there are many places suitable for filming: the large courtyard with porticoes and staircase leading to the hall of honour; the small skylight courtyard with staircase and walkways; the chancellor's room with its original furnishings; the meeting room and the hall of honour with frescoed ceiling and a sumptuous collection of paintings.
