The Nature Reserve of Punta Aderci in the area of Vasto (CH) was the first established in Abruzzo on the coastal side. Characterised by the rocky promontory of the same name, it safeguards one of the most spectacular and evocative stretches of Abruzzo coastline, where wide beaches of soft, white sand alternate with natural cliffs, enchanting bays and inlets and a crystal-clear sea.
The Reserve extends about 285 hectares from the beach of Punta Penna (famous for its picturesque lighthouse and Tower) to the mouth of the Sinello river on the border with the municipality of Casalbordino (CH). In some areas, characteristic coastal dunes on the shore’s edge give the landscape a wild and visually arresting look that is typically Mediterranean. A stair leads up from the beach to the top of the rocks from where it is possible to continue on to the promontory of Punta Aderci. From here it is possible to admire the entire Reserve and seafloor, and enjoy a sunset view of the mountains of the three national parks: Majella, Gran Sasso-Laga and Monti Sibillini. Further on is the pebble beach of Mottagrossa. Raised over the beach, at 20m above sea level, is a 3km approx. panoramic trail that provides an excursion on foot or bicycle through extensive pine forests along the coasts, valleys and areas of Mediterranean undergrowth.
