Lake Resia (Reschensee) is a body of water located in the municipality of Curon, in western Alto Adige. The manmade reservoir is 6 km long and about 1 km wide at its widest point. Its distinctive feature – a bell tower rising from the water – makes lake Resia unmistakable and characterizes the entire area of Val Venosta.
When the reservoir was filled at the end of the 1940s, the entire village of Curon and a large part of the village of Resia were swallowed up by the water, submerging 163 houses and 523 hectares of agricultural land. The only trace of the old town today is the Romanesque bell tower that emerges from the water.
