Located in the heart of Val Senales, lake Vernago stands at 1,689 m above sea level and covers an area of about 100 hectares. The manmade reservoir takes its name from the village that was largely submerged by the water collected in the dam.
Water passes through a 15 km long pressure pipeline to reach the Naturno power plant which is the most productive hydroelectric plant in Alto Adige, at 180 MW with a drop of over 1,150 m. Lake Vernago is very popular in summer with rowers who come here to train at high altitude.
