Located in the area of Lizzano in Belvedere, in the southernmost strip of the province of Bologna, Corno alle Scale is the tallest peak in the Bolognese Apennines at 1,945m. It owes its name to the conformation of its northern wall which features rocky steps. A large ski resort extends from its tip to Lake Scaffaiolo, about 2 hrs walk away, comprising: 36km of downhill slopes, 5 chair lifts, 1 ski-lift, 1 carpet lift with capacity of 10,000 people per hour, 2 cross-country ski trails and a snowboarding park. The area is part of the regional park of the same name, confirming its importance from a naturalistic perspective with interesting geological and mineralogical finds and abundant fauna and flora.
