The historical mount Brestovec route on mount Brestovec in the Isonzo karst was inaugurated in 2012. The peak, which looks over the valley that divides the Karst plateau, was used by the Austro-Hungarian army for observation and later became an entrenched line used by the Italian army linked to the defensive lines on the Doberdò plain.
The route includes the Gun Tunnel and many other traces from WWI and the cold war. From the area of Cotici Inferiore, the gravel trail descends through vegetation and after a thirty-minute walk leads to the first trenches, the Gun Tunnel where up to 8 cannons were positioned and a look-out tower used during the cold war. The route continues on to the peak of mount Brestovec which features a flag and an obelisk. The furthest trenches of the Italian line can be found at 100m distance in the direction of Cotici Superiore.
