Set in 132,000 sqm of parkland on Via Nomentana, the Casino Nobile is the main building in Villa Torlonia and was the setting for the formal entertainment events requested by Prince Giovanni Torlonia. The pre-existing Casino, which had belonged to the Colonna family, was restructured and enlarged by Giuseppe Valadier from 1802 to 1806 and further adapted by Giovan Battista Caretti, under Prince Alessandro Torlonia.
The structure has a very classical appearance, with the characteristics of an ancient temple: staircase, porch with Ionian columns and decorated tympanum.
The restored building was reopened to the public in 2006, and today houses the Museum of Villa Torlonia with sculptures and furnishings from bygone eras and, on the second floor, the Museum of the Roman School with works by 20th century artists.
