At 963m in length, via Garibaldi, originally known as via Dora Grossa because of the wide manmade canal along it that brought water to the centre of Turin, is considered the second-longest pedestrian street in Europe. Already present in traces of the Roman city, it was the main city thoroughfare for many years. Pedestrianized in 1979, it is now a pride of the city offering the opportunity to stroll amidst 18th century palaces, churches, shops and antiquarian booksellers.
