A pedestrian area since 2008, Via Lagrange (665m long) has consolidated its position as the new “drawing room” of Turin and the most sought- after street for shop owners who prefer it to Via Roma. Pedestrianisation brought new life to this street, once Contrada dei Conciatori, whose namesake, Luigi Lagrange, mathematician and astronomer, was born in a building at number 29.
Studded with elegant buildings (Palazzo Ceriana, Palazzo Bricherasio, the “house of balconies” designed by Antonelli, the Palazzo dell'Accademia Filarmonica), commemorative plaques (to Lagrange and to the Thaon di Revel family), shops and contemporary bars, Via Lagrange is today one of the busiest thoroughfares in city, thronged by residents and tourists alike.
