Built in the late 1800s, Dimora Muratore was commissioned by the owner of the land, Rocco Chillino, and stands on the original 16th century city walls of Lecce.
Dimora Muratore is encircled in a green embrace by an unusual and enchanting hanging garden of 1,000+m2 that continues up the walls along two sinuous ramps of stairs, decorated with columns, to the two main entrances to the villa. A sophisticated layout of terraces and dry walls, ancient trees, including some at risk of extinction (such as jacaranda, schinus molle, ginkgo biloba and Sicilian hackberry among others), various types of bamboo and palms, in addition to scented citrus trees, pomegranates, colourful bougainvillea and wild capers, make the Dimora gardens unique.
Every room on the piano nobile has splendid mosaic flooring, created by the famous Peluso brothers who, until the 1940s, produced a wide range of artisanal flooring for the noble palaces, villas and houses of Salento, plus numerous churches, chapels and public buildings.
The property of the Muratore family for many generations, the Dimora has been carefully restructured with great consideration for its history and with an eye on innovation. A combination of modern, art deco and authentic design objects, the result of careful research by the villa’s owners, is in perfect harmony with the architecture.
