Via XX Settembre, a main thoroughfare in the centre of Genoa, is a popular place for a walk with the city inhabitants. Situated in the neighbourhood of San Vincenzo and almost a kilometre in length, it links piazza della Vittoria with piazza De Ferrari.
The street has shops, offices, imposing civic buildings and long porticoes on both sides towards the upper part.
Via XX Settembre meets various streets, some partly pedestrian, and is crossed at midpoint by a monumental bridge, an imposing marble structure with several arches. Near the bridge is the Church of the Consolation whose entrance is below street level. Adjacent is the Romanesque Church of St. Stephen, above street level.
