The Bibione lagoon, in San Michele al Tagliamento (Venezia), is a collection of canals, islets, reeds and sandbars. It features a range of bird species and sandbars covered with flowering limonium.
The surrounding landscape includes the casoni: ancient shelters used for housing during the fishing season with walls and roofs of marsh reed and doors and windows in wood. Inside the single space has a sandy floor, a brick or stone fireplace and beams for a bed. The land around a casone is used to stow fishing material, or carry out repair work, stitching holes or tears. A small harbour, used essentially for mooring, is located in the area most sheltered from the fierce Bora wind.
