Procida, the smallest of the three islands in the Gulf of Naples, is characterised by the rich vegetation, the pristine sea and the boulders of the coast, which dominate a suggestive scenery. The tuff ground and the jagged coast confirm its volcanic origins.
The Port of Sancio Cattolico, also known as Marina Grande, is where the boats that arrive from Naples and Pozzuoli dock. The Mediterranean charm of the island is particularly appealing in the area named La Corricella: this secluded haven retains the typical island character, with its houses painted in bright pastel colours that enable the fishermen at sea to recognise their houses from afar. Another wonderful spot is the fortified centre of Terra Murata, built on the highest point of the island. The Marina di Chiaiolella is a semicircular inlet closed by the Santa Margherita Vecchia promontory. A long bridge links la Chiaiolella with the islet of Vivara, an oasis protected by the WWF.
