Where it was filmed 'A Boy From Calabria'

In 1960, Mimì, a boy from a poor family, disobeys his father who is attending a funeral and goes running in the village. The funeral takes place in the Chiesa del Carmine in Il Carmine, Palizzi (RC), while Mimì races barefoot through Pentedattilo, an abandoned neighbourhood in Melito di Porto Salvo (RC), where the school is. In the Murrotto neighbourhood of Palizzi, the boy becomes an impromptu competitor in a cross-country race but is taken ill before reaching the finish line. A short scene when Mimì manages to access an athletic track by giving the custodian 500 lire, was shot in a sports ground in Reggio Calabria, the city location for the asylum where Mimi’s father works as a janitor. The qualification trials for the Giochi della Gioventù take place in Scilla (RC): one of the most spectacular moments of the race shows the beach and the Ruffo Castle while the finish line is outside the Church of San Rocco, in the square of the same name. The national athletic finals are held in the Olympic Stadium in Rome.
