Skam Italia, adaptation of the Norwegian series of the same name, unfolds over several seasons, focussing on adolescent issues in the transition phase between high school and university. The setting is a constant: the city of Rome.
The protagonists attend J.F. Kennedy High School in via Nicola Fabrizi, Trastevere. The neighbourhood also includes "il Baretto" in via Garibaldi, piazza San Cosimato and the staircase in nearby viale Glorioso.
Over the course of the seasons, many places in Rome feature in the background: lungotevere; park of the Aqueducts; the Garbatella district with piazza Giancarlo Vallauri and the murals of Tor Marancia; the baths of Caracalla and adjacent via Fabio Cilone; the gay street in San Giovanni in Laterano; the stadio dei Marmi and the areas of Stadio Olimpico; Imperial Fora; piazzale Socrate with its view of the city; via della Conciliazione; Trinità dei Monti; ponte della Scienza in Ostiense; EUR with its square Colosseum and museum of Roman Civilization; and the Faculty of Architecture of Roma Tre University in the former slaughterhouse in Testaccio.
The protagonist of Season 5 is Elia, who having failed his high school exam, is forced to repeat the school year. To see his friends, he goes to the University of Rome La Sapienza, in particular the faculty of Law. Meanwhile, Eva (Ludovica Martino) often goes to her favourite place: the steps of the Arce Capitolina in Rione Campitelli.
Over the seasons, the characters have also made forays outside the capital, to places in Lazio such as Ostia, lake Bracciano, the "tree house" in Fregene, the historic diving podium in Fiumicino and San Felice Circeo. Season 2 also features Milan, with the modern Porta Nuova district represented by piazza Gae Aulenti which features in Martino and Niccolò's elopement.
Season 6 focuses on Asia (Nicole Rossi), a highly charismatic girl with a strong and determined character who faces significant challenges, especially with herself and fragilities. Her friendship with the other members of the Rebelde group is crucial to facing her battles, and intertwines with the arrival of new characters, in particular Giulio (Andrea Palma).
