Set in the 18th century, Paola Randi’s film is the prequel to 2018’s The Legend of the Christmas Witch starring Paola Cortellesi, and tells the legend of the good, generous little witch who brings gifts to children.
The film was shot in Umbria and Lazio: in Umbria locations included the caves of Orvieto Underground, and the town of Todi. In Lazio the production concentrated mostly on two places in the Castelli Romani area, Villa Aldobrandini, an imposing early 17th century building overlooking Frascati, and Villa Parisi, a building from the same time located in Monte Porzio Catone. Also in Lazio, the outdoor settings were recreated in the Macchia Grande forest in Manziana, the beech forest of Soriano nel Cimino and the Chia waterfalls in the Tuscia area. The home of Dolores, the white witch, was built in the beech forest around a tree which hides a secret, her alchemical laboratory.
