The Saline di Margherita di Savoia Nature Reserve is a protected natural area in Apulia that was opened in 1977. It occupies a surface area of 3,871 hectares and lies in the province of Barletta-Andria-Trani. It borders two other protected areas: Il Monte nature reserve and Masseria Combattenti nature reserve.
Its salt pans (Saléne in the local dialect) overlooking the Adriatic are the largest in Europe, second largest in the world, and recognised as wetlands of international importance (Ministerial Decree of 30.05.1979) as per the Ramsar Convention. The former salt warehouse next to the 16th-century tower, known as the Torre delle Saline, houses the Historical Museum of the Salt Pans.
