The Roman Amphitheatre of Tusculum (approx. 2nd century B.C.E) stands outside the walls of the ancient city of Tusculum, balanced on the south-eastern slopes of the hill and supported to the north-west by built constructions. Partially excavated in 19th century, today the contours of the amphitheatre are visible while most of the ruins are underground. The two major axes (72.6m x 55m) create an elliptically shaped arena which was 53m long and 35m wide, and is thought to have hosted approx. 3,000 spectators.
