The city of Fossano (CN) in the foothills of Mount Monviso, has medieval origins as its symbol, the Castle of the Princes of Acaja, attests.
The historical centre, comprising the Piazza and Vecchio neighbourhoods, features a harmonious mix of Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque palaces, surrounded by the ruins of the city walls which include the Bastione della Porta del Salice and the Porta di San Martino.
Over time Fossano acquired notable architectural works in the Piedmontese Baroque style, including the 18th century Churches of the Most Holy Trinity, St. Philip and the Cathedral of St. Juvenal. The Sanctuary of the Madonna della Divina, built following Marian apparitions, is located in the hamlet of Cussanio, surrounded by lawns and tree-lined areas. Fossano is also a strongly industrial city with factories for various cake and dessert producers.
Places of natural interest not far from the residential centre include the Camminatura with hiking trails that extend over 160km and the Oasi Naturalistica della Madonnina where 200 species of bird can be admired.
