Although it still bears the name of its first owner, Palazzo Pitti is symbolic of the power consolidated by the Medici family, who lived there from the mid-16th century. It is currently home to four museums: the Silver Museum, the Palatine Gallery and the Royal Apartments on the main floor of the Palace, the Gallery of Modern Art, and the Costume Gallery on the second floor.
