The Curci Theatre in the centre of Barletta is an excellent example of 19th century architecture. Inaugurated in 1819 when it was named for St. Ferdinand, it partially collapsed in 1864. The theatre was rebuilt and opened again in 1872, now dedicated to the musician Giuseppe Curci, originally from Barletta. The new, larger structure included additions like the vestibule, bar, smoking room and an upstairs ballroom. Closed in the early 1990s, the Theatre was reopened in 1998 and now hosts a busy theatrical season.
