The Museo di Antichità is part of the Royal Museum complex in Turin, along with the Royal Palace, the Galleria Sabauda, the Royal Gardens, the Royal Armoury, the Royal Library, the Sale Chiablese and the Chapel of the Holy Shroud.
The Museum of Antiquity in Palazzo Reale has three different sections.
The first, in the New Wing of the Royal Palace, features the redesigned display of the Marengo Treasure and the Archaeology in Turin exhibit which presents archaeological finds of the city from the collections of 16th century scholars, augmented by antiquarians in later centuries and later absorbed into the royal collections, updated with information deriving from recent archaeological investigations. The section is connected to the archaeological area of the Roman Theatre which it overlooks.
The “Territory” section is housed in a newly designed structure, part of which is underground, and exhibits the archaeological materials discovered in the region of Piedmont during past and recent digs. The display route offers the perfect trip back in time through artefacts reflecting life in ancient Piedmont.
The “Collections” section, original nucleus of the Museum, has the archaeological collections housed in the Orangeries of the Royal Palace, setting for the display of the Papyrus of Artemidorus in 2014.
