Galleria Sabauda is part of the Royal Museum complex in Turin, along with the Royal Palace, the Museo di antichità, the Royal Gardens, the Royal Armoury, the Royal Library, the Sale Chiablese and the Chapel of the Holy Shroud.
Created in 1832 by Charles Albert of Sardinia, the gallery first hosted the collections from the Royal Palace, the Savoy picture gallery and the Durazzo Palace of Genoa.
Its present-day location, in the New Wing of the Royal Palace, was built between the late 1800s and early 1900s by the court architect Emilio Stramucci. More than 500 works by Italian, Dutch, Flemish European and Piedmontese artists from the 14th to 20th century are displayed on 4 storeys in chronological order.
The Italian masters include Beato Angelico, Pollaiolo, Filippino Lippi, Mantegna and Paolo Veronese. The Galleria Sabauda also boasts a wide range of paintings from the Italian, Flemish and Dutch schools between the 1400s and 1600s.
