The area of Furore (SA) on the Amalfi Coast has been an impregnable fortress since the times of the Saracen incursions thanks to its particular physical-geographical conformation. The Fjord, which grew out of a deep gulley in the rock through which the Schiato stream flows, presented a natural harbour where trade flourished and the most ancient forms of industrial activity developed. Today it is filled with vines, olive and lemon groves and Mediterranean undergrowth. A tiny beach (25m) can be reached through a trail through the rock which starts at the 28m high bridge above. Roberto Rossellini used it as a location for his film L'amore, and lived here for a time as did Anna Magnani. It is one of the stages in the World Cliff Diving Championship.
