The source of the Clitunno river is formed from numerous underground springs that burst from slits in the rock. Its water, with intense and constantly changing colours, features a range of vegetation that gives it a luxuriant and picturesque appearance; weeping willows and plane trees throng its banks. Streams, small waterfalls, bridges and paths can be found all around the lake.
The Clitunno River, a tributary of the River Topino, emerges near via Flaminia in Campello sul Clitunno (PG) between Spoleto and Foligno and continues on for 60km. The small temple that rises on its bank was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011.
