The cryptoporticoes of Formia are part of the archaeological, landscape and monumental city complex. They include a Roman seaside villa from the Republican era which is today embedded beneath the town hall. The domus, which belonged to Gnaeus Domitius Apollinare, Suffect Consul in 98 C.E. has 15 large rooms on a labyrinthine layout, totalling 1.500 sqm on each of its original (probably three) storeys. The domus also featured a 1,800 sqm structure by the sea for breeding fish, while the ground floor rooms were used for storage and as servant quarters.
