The Aghinolfi Castle rises above the village of Montignoso, in Lunigiana, about 5 km from the center of Massa. Of Longobardian origin, its construction dates back to before the year 1000. The fortification is characterized by a large octagonal keep with an internal central tower. Today the Castle has become a Museum, the keep, the ancient walls and the underground walkways can be visited.
