Villa Emo Capodilista, a masterpiece of Italian architecture and one of the most original Venetian Villas, stands on Montecchia hill, part of the Euganean Hills Regional Park, in Selvazzano Dentro (Padua).
Gabriele Capodilista, feudal lord of Montecchia, commissioned Villa Emo Capodilista in 1568; it has belonged to the same family ever since. Originally a hunting lodge, the design by the architect and painter Dario Varotari (Verona 1539 - Padua 1596), a pupil of Veronese, has a square plan, echoed in the internal distribution of the rooms: four on the ground floor and four on the first floor, connected by a splendid four flight staircase in the shape of a Greek cross.
