The ancient, picturesque borgo of Gorgo is located near Fossalta di Portogruaro (Venice). Several buildings conserve architectural features that evoke its past as a bishop’s feud: e.g., the ancient tower and parts of the wallsthat encircled the town. The central part of the borgo is dominated by the large Bishops Palace (now private property).
The building dedicated to St. Christina dating to 1329 and restored in 2007 is used today to host a range of cultural events, meetings and courses: although it is nominally a church, it was never actually consecrated. During the 17thcentury, the parish priest was endowed with special temporary powers by the Bishop to celebrate mass there on the patron saint’s day. The interior features a 16th century fresco of St Sebastian and St Valentine.
