The Basilica of St. Zeno Major in Verona is a Romanesque masterpiece dedicated to the 8th bishop of Verona; established between the 8th and 9th centuries, it was later modified. The tuff rock facade has a portal sheathed in bronze plates, a vestibule, bas-reliefs and an early 13th century rose window; the side walls have a typically Veronese decorative façade, alternating rows of tuff rock and brick.
The three naves inside are separated by pilasters, some have capitols taken from Roman buildings. A triptych by Andrea Mantegna, a key painting in the Northern Italian Renaissance, hangs at the main altar. The square named for the Basilica opens in front of it, one of the most iconic places in Verona.
