Since its construction in the 1st century BCE over the Adige river in Verona, ponte Pietra has undergone numerous collapses, reconstructions and restorations resulting in its current appearance which has five arches. The two white stone arches on the left are Roman in origin; the central brick arch is from 1520, and those on the right are a medieval reconstruction dating to 1298. At the same time, the bridge was also equipped with the defensive tower at its head.
