The gates of Bra, primary access point to the ancient city of Verona, were built into the medieval walls by Gian Galeazzo Visconti in the late 14th century in order to connect piazza Bra with the surrounding countryside.
The present-day structure features two imposing round arches and a clock presented to the city in 1871 by Count Antonio Nogarola positioned at the centre; the upper part has a crenelated walkway in red brick. To the right of the gate is the Pentagonal tower, a crenelated defensive element dating to the era of the Commune.
