The streets in the centre of Tredozio (Forlì-Cesena) lead to Palazzo Fantini, an elegant 16th century building which became the residence of the noble Fantini family in 1750.
Built on the foundations of older houses, the building today houses the Museo della Civiltà Contadina and the Panciatichi Library. It overlooks a splendid, raised Italian garden which is accessible only by a staircase on the broad supporting wall. Designed in 1800, it features hidden paths, fountains with nymphaeum and hedges cut into rigorous geometrical shapes.
The upper part of the garden features a wide variety of trees including: holm oaks, horse chestnuts, acacias, lindens, oaks and lawns with wildflowers. The picturesque garden leads into the rock garden embellished with staircases, hidden pathways and walls in the classical 19th century Romantic style. A herb garden was also designed and created.
