The clock tower in Brisighella (Ravenna) was originally a fort, built from square chalk blocks in 1290 by Maghinardo Pagani da Susinana to control the siege of the nearby Baccagnano Castle. It was the town’s defensive system along with the fortress until 1500. Damaged and rebuilt several times, the tower was completely remade in 1850, and the clock with a six-hour dial was added. The tower offers an interesting view of the calanchi, a geological formation of blue clay eroded by atmospheric agents.
