The Parco della Valle dei Templi in Agrigento is one of the most significant sites of classical Greek civilization. A powerful and magnificent city, Akragas built numerous sanctuaries and sacred buildings in a vast area during the 5thcentury BCE. The temples stand on a crest and to the area south of the plateau on the edge of the residential area.
On the highest area of the hill, the imposing Temple of Juno, goddess of marriage, has 25 standing columns. The Temple to Castor and Pollux, with its four columns and partial entablature, has become the symbol of Agrigento. One of the Telamon statues, colossal mythological figures, from the now-ruined Temple to Jupiter is now positioned supporting the entablature.
