With a surface area of about 20 km2, Lampedusa is the largest of the Pelagian Islands (the group includes Linosa and Lampione) and the southern-most place in Italy, geographically closer to the Tunisian coast, 113 km away, than to Sicily, 205 km.
The island has an elongated shape and a coastline shaped by wind with steep drops and precipices that rise to 133m in the North and slope gradually while heading South towards the beaches and low bays include Cala Pulcino, spiaggia dei Conigli, Tabaccara, cala Madonna, cala Croce and spiaggia della Guitgia.
A few metres off the western coast of Lampedusa, the islet dei Conigli, today a natural reserve along with its beach, is one of the few sites on the Mediterranean Sea where turtles lay their eggs.
Lampedusa is a triumph of arid, wild nature, surrounded by a clear blue sea so calm that it looks like a real, natural swimming pool.
