Piazza Catena in Riva del Garda (Trento) takes its name from the large chain that was stretched across the water to defend the harbour of lake Garda in the past. The square stands on the Trentino side of the lake and, until 1929, housed the imperial customs house which marked the border that divided the northern edge of the lake from the parts below for centuries.
It features a Baroque statue of San Giovanni Nepomuceno, protector of the waters. Numerous restaurants, shops and accommodation facilities stand on the square and an ancient clock tower can be found at one end.
This point offers access to other parts of the lake thanks to the small boats that stop in front of the square.
