Lake Garda, also known as lake Benaco, is the largest in Italy at 370 km²; mount Baldo separates it from the Adige. The northern tip is located in the province of Trento and its water touches shore in the municipalities of Nago-Torbole and Riva del Garda. Lesser-known than the parts in Veneto and Lombardy, the Trentino area of the lake is particularly evocative with a unique landscape where high mountains contrast with olive groves and lemon plantations on the lake shore.
The Trentino Garda is very popular with lovers of water and non-water sports, including windsurfing, canoeing, sailing and mountain biking.
The forts of mount Brione, a powerful defensive line of Austro-Hungarian fortresses around mount Brione, is one of the most evocative places in the area and features a trekking path.
