The
arrival at Siena station of young American Lucy marks the beginning of the
Tuscan holiday that will change the course of her teenage life.
The
friends that put her up live in a farmhouse in Chianti that has been turned into a kind of commune, inhabited by
artists and other guests, on the winding strip of land between Siena and
Florence. The farmstead of the Barone
Ricasoli property, in Gaiole in Chianti (SI), is clearly visible from Brolio Castle. The Mangia Tower in Piazza del Campo and that of Siena Cathedral, which feature in the
aerial shot that accompanies the credits, stand tall in the distance for the
entire film. All around are vineyards and the occasional olive tree.
The
setting shifts to another magnificent location, Villa di Geggiano Bianchi Bandinelli in Pianella, in the municipality of Castelnuovo Berardenga (SI), where Lucy is deceived and then
disappointed at a magnificent summer festival.
Love happens upon her almost by chance, unexpectedly, in the setting of the thermal springs of Acqua Borra in Monteaperti, a district of Castelnuovo Berardenga. And she loses her virginity under two oak trees so close to one another that they combine to form one single canopy between Brolio Castle and Geggiano.
