The Italian locations in the game are borrowed from the two films, with some of the creative freedoms afforded by video games. The opening scene unfolds at a majestic villa on Lake Como: Villa La Gaeta. The villa, which was built on a rocky outcrop on Lake Como, is an eclectic-style building that blends together liberty-style and medieval features. 007 must fight his way through first the outdoor and then the indoor areas, fending off waves of enemies. On subsequent missions he makes his way across the city of Siena during the Palio horse race, with the city in a state of frenzy and adorned with the flags of its various contradas. In the distance we see Piazza del Campo and the profile of Palazzo Pubblico with its Torre del Mangia. In one long flashback, events from Casino Royale unfold in Venice: the player must tail Vespas through the faithfully reconstructed streets of the city, ending up in an engaging shootout in a building that is slowly crumbling into the water.
