Shot in California, the United Arab Emirates and Italy. A fluorescent-green Alfa Romeo causes panic in the traffic of the historical centre of Florence: dodging shoot outs and various incidents, it crosses the Lungarno and Piazza Cavalleggeri, outside the Biblioteca Nazionale. One of the gang, the acrobat, is on top of the Duomo, spotting his accomplices in trouble, he slides down the cupola and races along the edges, providing an unusual and spectacular view of the Tuscan capital. We leap magically to Siena: the Duomo and the Basilica of San Domenico feature in the background as the acrobat moves across the roofs of the medieval buildings. Behind him, the Church of Santa Maria di Provenzano while the Alfa is actually heading for Piazza del Campo. Then it’s back to Florence, driving through the Arch on the River Arno into Piazzale degli Uffizi and Piazza della Signoria. The car tries to shake off a helicopter by driving into a reconstruction of the Galleria dell’Accademia, winding through the rooms it brushes past the Michelangelo’s famous statue of David among other works.
While Siena’s historical centre is magically transformed into Florence, in the last act, Taranto becomes the fictional Turgistan, a Middle Eastern state ruled by an evil tyrant. The enormous yacht Kismet is anchored on the canal that coasts the Castello Aragonese. There are chases and accidents and footage shot on Ponte Girevole, in the old city, including the explosion of two cars on Corso Due Mari. The production also shot scenes in Calatrava’s Vela, an enormous woven metal structure in the shape of a shark’s fin and unfinished sports stadium, in the Tor Vergata neighbourhood of Rome: part of the Kismet was built here.
Some shots also took place inside the Cinecittà Studios.
