Fortune Cookie, an unusual dark comedy produced and distributed by Ahora! was shot in Liguria. The many locations, ranged across the Ligurian Riviera, included Santa Margherita Ligure, Rapallo, Vado Ligure, Savona, Genoa, Imperia.
The story, a first film from Marco Placanica, takes place in the province of Savona, unfolding from the harbour waters, stretching along the alley walls, up to the villas on the surrounding hills. The charming corners and porticos of the city quickly give way to the industrial and harbour areas just moments from the hills overlooking the coastline. This story starts in the port of Vado Ligure. A port is the perfect representation of “elsewhere”, of desire, of the horizon that every human heads towards, despite our common fears, that is the future. It is the ideal setting for a central character with an unwieldy inheritance to manage: he has to find out how it works, discover the secrets hidden in the water’s depths and bring them into the present day and then, inevitably, into the future. So that he can become a man and find the courage to reach his dreams, whatever it takes.
