Filattiera is a municipality in the province of Massa-Carrara which is part of the National Park of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, and is located in a mountainous and hilly area on the left bank of the River Magra, in the Upper Lunigiana. The town was a Byzantine fortification during the Byzantine-Lombard wars. Its first settlement, dating back to the 13th century, still stands today, with its Church of San Giorgio and sighting tower.
