Porto Azzurro is a well-known seaside destination located at the centre of the gulf of Mola (province of Livorno) and the most welcoming bay in the eastern coastline of the island of Elba.
Originally a fishing village known as Longone, Porto Azzurro was strongly influenced by the Spanish dominion, as the 15th century fortress of Longone attests.
Buildings of particular interest include the Santuary of the Madonna del Monserrato and the Church of the Cuore Immacolato di Maria.
The tourist port of Marina di Porto Azzurro has two docks (IV Novembre and Giacomo Matteotti). Beneath the floating pontoons facing the docks, the seafloor has a depth that ranges from 1.8 to 9m.
