The 13th century Orsini Castle, built for defensive purposes on the ruins of a similar structure dating to 1000, served for centuries as the residence for nobles and popes who all modified its appearance many times. From 1848 to 1989, however, it was a prison.
Located on the highest point of the hill where Soriano nel Cimino (VT) spreads out, it is in a good state of conservation and, after several decades of abandonment, is currently used for exhibitions.
A permanent exhibition (Dagli organetti alle macchine parlanti, fino al vinile) is displayed on the lower floors while the second storey of the Castle is entirely occupied by the Museo della Civiltà Contadina, which features rural tools and equipment predominantly from the Tuscia area.
