The twin forts of Rocchette and Rocchettine, hamlets of Torri in Sabina, can be found in one of the most charming parts of the Tiber Valley in the Sabine area, filled with woods and watercourses. Settled around the 13th century, Rocchette is today a sparsely inhabited residential centre, while Rocchettine and its fortress were abandoned in the 1950s and conserve the characteristics of a medieval centre.
Only ruins remain to testify the past splendour of Rocchettine Fortress: its alleys offer glimpses of ancient buildings whose functions can be guessed at: workshops, religious places of worship, homes.
A square tower, incorporated into the walls, is a reminder of the ancient origins of the castrum while traces of the sweeping restructure work carried out by the Savelli family are clearly seen in the great cylindrical towers, the entry gate to the castle, and the perimeter wall fortified with cantilevers, arrow slits and brackets. The Church of San Lorenzo was completely rebuilt in the 1700s.
