The port of Taranto, one of the largest in Italy for volume of goods, lies on the northern coast of the Gulf of Taranto, and plays an important role commercially and strategically.
The fixtures of the commercial and industrial port are distributed along the north-western sector of the coast of Mar Grande and beyond, to the west. Managed by the Port Authorities, whose offices are situated in the port, the complex has three points of access, two of which are currently in use.
The tourist harbour is situated in the area of Molo Sant’Eligio in the Borgo Antico overlooking Mar Grande: a location which provides a good overview of the various historical, cultural, archaeological and architectural elements that characterise the little island. The harbour has 254 moorings and is equipped with both permanent and floating wharves, a quay and a slipway, boat storage facilities, car parks and multi-purpose green areas. There are also reception facilities and restaurants, and a full range of nautical tourism services: well-equipped moorings, repair services, re-fuelling services, tourist information, plus recreational, sporting, cultural and artistic activities.
